Mini-Chocolate Fondue Recipe

by Suzanne Hiscock
Mini Chocolate Fondue with Bananas For most of us who want to lose weight, cutting out “forbidden” desserts or snacks is like waving a red flag at an enraged bull.

“What do you mean I can’t have chocolate? Screw that! I’m going to have a TON of chocolate.”

Or at least that’s how I get.

The FitWatch philosophy is to make changes you can live with for the rest of your life. Giving up chocolate is not something I want to do.

The trick, then, is chocolate in moderation — and to find a way to indulge a chocolate craving without going overboard. A piece of chocolate is nice — but boring. Chocolate fondue, on the other hand? S-W-O-O-N! The problem with chocolate fondue is it’s made with cream, takes time and made in large batches. (Are you really going to stick to one serving when you’ve got a pot full of melted chocolate sitting in front of you?)

But I have your back! I came up with a low calorie, single-serving, quick and easy mini-chocolate fondue. The fondue itself is only 60 calories! Add in fresh fruit and you can indulge your chocolate craving without having left-overs calling to you in the middle of the night.

Here’s the recipe:

FitWatch Mini-Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Prep Time:

30 seconds
Cook time: 25 seconds
Total Time: 55 seconds to chocolatey goodness
Yield: 1 Serving

1 small square of Lindt 70% dark chocolate (.35oz or 10g)
1 Tbsp of 1% low fat milk (15 ml)

Break the chocolate square into 4 pieces and place in a small, microwaveable bowl. Add 1 Tbsp of low-fat milk.

Microwave at 60% power for 25 seconds, until the chocolate is soft. Remove from microwave and stir until chocolate completely melts.

Serve with your favorite fruit, such as:

1 Medium Banana: 104 calories
1 Cup Strawberries (halves): 50 calories

Melting Chocolate Tips

  • Test the amount of time in your microwave. Every microwave is different.
  • If your microwave doesn’t have a power setting, microwave in short bursts of time.
  • If your microwave doesn’t have a turntable, turn the bowl halfway through.
  • Be careful if you overcook the chocolate; it’ll be very hot.

I’ve added the nutritional information into the FitWatch calorie counter and tracker.
