How to Save for Your New Smaller Wardrobe

Published by FitWatch

Do you worry about how you will afford a new wardrobe after you finally reach your goal weight? New clothes aren’t cheap, and if you have a substantial amount of weight to lose, you will probably have to buy everything new, from underwear on up to winter coats and possibly even new shoes!

No need to feel anxious about that, however. Here is a great way to start saving for your new wardrobe while also motivating yourself to keep moving down the scale to your goal weight.

Pay Yourself to Lose Weight For every pound you lose, pay yourself a dollar or two.  Put an empty mason jar or jelly jar in a prominent place in your home, and put a note on it that reads “New Wardrobe Fund”.  Add your funds to it each week; if you lost 2 pounds, that would be $2 to $4.  That may not seem like a lot of money but you would be surprised how quickly it adds up.

If you don’t have a lot of weight to lose, you may want to bump up the reward to be $5 or $10 per pound lost so you can build up a bigger fund to make it worthwhile.

Be sure to look at the jar every week, or daily, and get excited about going to buy your new wardrobe!

Pay Yourself to Break Bad Habits You can even add extra money to the pot in creative ways - like switching to plain green tea instead of those expensive rich lattes and flavored coffees.  Not only will you add more money to your wardrobe fund, you’ll also boost your weight loss by cutting calories.

Even if you don’t have enough weight to lose to warrant buying a whole new wardrobe, you can still treat yourself to some new outfits, shoes, handbags, workout clothing or equipment, or even a gym membership if you want.  You could even turn it into a charitable donation fund if you wanted to make your weight loss benefit others.  The point is to have fun and look forward to a reward at the end of the journey, however you want to do it.
