Monday Morning "Goal" Call :: Finding Time

by Suzanne Hiscock

One excuse I’ve heard many times—and used!—is, “I don’t have the time.”  You know what I mean:  “I want to exercise, but I don’t have the time.”  “I want to eat right, but I don’t have the time.”

Here, I’ll make it simple for you:  fill in the blank with your own excuse:  “_________________________, but I don’t have the time.”

There, are ya done whining? :-)

We ALL have the same 24 hours in a day.  If you want to do something and you “feel” you don’t have the time, then you need to figure out a way to free up some time.  No excuses. My goal this week is to free up some time by avoiding all the news sites I visit.  This is going to be especially challenging because I’m a news junkie!

I want to know what goal you’re working on this week!

Here’s what I want you to do.  In the comments section down below:

  1. Write down a specific goal you’re going to work on for this week.  It can be a daily goal, a weekly goal, or longer.  It doesn’t matter what it is, but just write it down. (It can be related to food, exercise or any aspect of your life that you want to change.)
  2. Write down your motivation for doing this: Will you give yourself a reward? Take something pleasurable away?  (Cutting down my shower time as a negative reinforcement motivates me! I love taking long showers! :-) )
  3. Write your goal out as if you have already succeeded .  Put it in the form of a positive affirmation by starting it off with phrases like:  “I am happy that…”, “I am feeling great because…”

Here’s what I’ve come up with for this week:

1.  This Monday to Friday, I’m going to free up some time by avoiding news sites, with these exceptions:  I can visit the health section of news sites (this is business-related), and I’m allowed to get the latest hockey news by going to nhl.com.  (I’m trying to avoid depressing news.  I probably waste a good amount of time reading depressing news…)

2.  If I don’t do this, I will not be allowed to watch Lost next week. (This will be a HUGE motivator! I’m completely hooked!)

3.  “I’m happy I have more free time, now that I’m not reading (and constantly checking) news websites.  I love having more time to plan my meals, and I feel so much better mentally because I’m not reading negative news.  It’s helping my stress level, too!”

So, what are you going to work on this week?

And she’s really TRULY SORRY ABOUT THAT. You see, she didn’t realize she was contributing to diet culture; she just wanted to help people feel better. But losing weight isn’t the way to do it. She’s on a mission to change all that with an anti-diet approach. So, pardon the dust on the floor as the website gets revamped.
