Fitness Builder iPhone App: Review
Written By: Suzanne Hiscock
Is This the Best Fitness App Ever?
I recently bought an iPhone — for business, of course — or, at least, that’s what I tell my accountant. Truth is, I kept seeing all these apps that I wanted to try out. Do you need gadgets to lose weight and get in shape? No. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be helpful. Extremely helpful, when it comes to the Fitness Builder app from PumpOne.
If you’re serious about working out, you need the Fitness Builder app for your iPhone. This app frees you up so you can concentrate on what’s important: burning fat, building muscle and getting the most out of your workout in the most efficient way possible. After you open up Fitness App, you’ll see right away it was designed by a trainer.
Right Out of The Box (So to Speak)
I’m not exaggerating when I say this Fitness Builder blew me away. I was impressed right away with the look and feel of the app. Very easy to move around and figure out how to do things. They definitely kept the user in mind when creating the app.
Scrolling through the preloaded workouts, I was a bit dissappointed to see the workouts contained gym equipment I didn’t have access to — there were so many workouts I wanted to do. But, imagine my elation when I saw I could edit those workouts in the Workout Builder section.
I was pumped. But could the creators of Fitness Builder make this app any better? You betcha! The Workout Builder section not only lets you create a workout based on a Fitness Builder workout, but you can easily — I mean, very easily — create your own workout. Pick a body part, pick an equipment category, and voila! A list of exercises (with pictures) pops up and you just drag it into the workout you’re creating.
Putting It to Use
I decided to create a workout based on the book, “New Rules of Lifting.” Would Fitness Builder have all the exercises I needed? With over 2,000 images and videos with their Standard access — and over 5,000 with their paid Plus access (highly recommended) — not a problem. In fact, I was able to switch out a cable wood chop exercise from the book with an app exercise using equipment I have.
The next day, I was ready. It was time to work out using Fitness Builder. Again, I was blown away. I know it sounds like I’m exaggerating, but I can’t imagine working out without Fitness Builder. It’s hard to tell what I loved best: the fact I didn’t have to drag around my workout log sheet, a pen and my clipboard? The fact I didn’t have to hunt around through the book to find out how to do an exercise? The fact there’s a rest timer, so I didn’t have to keep looking at my watch and try to remember when I ended my last set? Was it the countdown timer while doing a plank?
Or maybe it was the videos of the exercises? Or how easy it was to log my sets, including reps and weights? I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed working out as much as I did when I used this app.
And there are still many more features I haven’t covered.
Hands down, Fitness Builder makes it easy for you to work out by taking care of all those little things that distract you from your workout — and by providing a huge library of exercises to keep things interesting.
Update January 12th, 2010: Fitness Builder continues to impress. I’ve been focusing on creating my own workouts because I’m currently following a workout book. This morning, I realized I haven’t been stretching as much as I should — and, naturally, started wondering if “there was an app for that.” Didnt’ have to look far because Fitness Builder takes care of that, too! I’ll be adding those to my workout.
I also took the time to look through even more of the preloaded workouts and found quite a number of workouts that didn’t involve big gym equipment. My motivation soared — so many workouts, so little time! This app just keeps getting better and better…
