Can I Eat All My Calories for the Day in One Meal and Still Lose Weight, Even If I’m In a Calorie Deficit?

You hear it everywhere now: if you want to lose weight, it helps to eat smaller meals more frequently. In other words, spread out the calories (energy) you take in over the course of day instead of eating all those calories in one sitting. This helps to keep your blood sugar level and curb cravings, amongst others.

Now, eating small meals more frequently doesn’t mean you are automatically going to lose weight. You still need to be within a calorie deficit: to lose weight, you need to eat less calories than you burn in a day. So, let’s say you eat 1500 calories and you burn 2000 calories in a day. That creates a reasonable calorie deficit of 500 calories.

Junk Food & Overeating: Here’s Why You Do It

Posted in: Hunger & Cravings, Mind & Motivation, Nutrition, Weight Loss    |    4 Comments

Smart marketing for a product isn’t just about advertising. It’s about creating services or goods that people can’t live without — or that they crave on a continual basis. This is exactly what food manufacturers consider when they create a product for you to eat. Their goal is for you enjoy it and overeat your normal consumption because that’s more money in their pocket.

Fat and sugar and salt are the three main culprits that stimulate your brain to make you eat more. While you think you’re just answering your hunger cues, in reality, your body is being over-stimulated to eat more than your body needs.

It was the chips that did me in! Tough little buggers! I told myself I’d only have a few, but…

Last evening, we had some people over for supper. In many ways, I didn’t do too badly: had a tiny bit of potato salad, kept the steak to 2 oz, had some healthy scallops/olive oil. But I could have kept the wine to 1 glass max — and did I really need to eat those chips?!? They were really tasty — but that’s how they get you! Ha! (I’ll be posting an article within the next few weeks about how junk food companies get you wanting more.)

But, no excuses, right?

Now, here’s where things get interesting.

Should I Skip a Meal If I Overeat During the Holidays?

Posted in: Ask The Fat Loss Guru    |    2 Comments

Tom Venuto - Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle Author

Ask The Fat Loss Guru is a series of Q & A with fat loss expert, Tom Venuto. Tom is a natural bodybuilder, certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and a certified personal trainer (CPT). I’ve learned so much from Tom through is e-book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. No hype, no gimmicks — Tom shoots straight from the hip, and tells you the truth about fat loss.

QUESTION: Tom, If you accidentally pig out or over-indulge at a meal, (a Holiday party for example), are you better off skipping your next meal to keep your daily caloric intake on target, or should you just go ahead and eat your next planned meal and not worry about being somewhat “over” your planned calories for the day?
