Hey everybody! It’s Suzanne from FitWatch.com.

Today, I’m going to be a major party pooper. But hopefully it’ll be a wake up call for some of you out there who like to have a “glass” of wine. And that’s glass with quotes.

Here’s a typical red wine glass. And now I’m going to pour some wine. A nice red wine. How much do you usually drink? To maybe about here? Maybe a little bit more? It’s Friday, it’s been a long week, you’re particularly stressed — and, oh, there we go: a nice glass of red wine.

So, here’s a “glass” of wine, right? Wrong! A serving of red table wine is about 5 ounces which is around 105 calories. I’m going to pour this into my measuring cup and we’re going to see how much it is. So here we go. I’ll be very careful not to drop any, don’t worry. Here we go. Here we go.

That is — I don’t know if you can see it — but that is 10 ounces, which is about 210 calories. So you’re thinking you’re having a glass of wine and it’s actually two glasses of wine! If you fill it up to the top, you’re looking at 12 ounces, which is around 254 calories.

Okay, let’s pour this back into the glass. I’m going to put this away.

Now, what happens is, you tell yourself “I only had one glass of wine.” Right? So, it’s one glass. So then you have another one! This is 12 ounces. This is ten. This is twelve. Twelve ounces, like I said is 254 calories. So now, you’re looking at 500 calories — and you’ve only had “two” glasses of wine, right? Wrong! Again…

So now, I’m going to show you a serving of wine. A serving of wine, like I said, is 5 ounces. THIS is 5 ounces of wine. THAT’s what a “glass” of wine should look like.

So, like I said, I hate to be a party pooper. But if you’re trying to lose weight and you’re counting your calories, you really need to watch your liquid calories.

So, think about this video the next time that you’re having a “glass” of wine.
