Take the Time to De-Stress Your Life

I doubt there’s a single person alive who can say they have no stress in their lives. Like it or not, stress is a part of living, and some people can manage it better than others. But, you need to realize that not all stress is actually bad stress. Sometimes, stress can be good. What is important for you to do is to make the distinction in your own life, and realize which stress is manageable, and which has got to go. Once you’re able to do that, you’ll feel better – both mentally and physically. Here are some ideas for you to use in your stress management:
- Make some time at the end of your day to sit and think about the stress you experienced that day. Try to find a calm, relaxing place where you won’t be interrupted, and think about any concerns you had during the day.
- Have a pad and pen with you to write down your thoughts during these sessions. Don’t worry about making everything “just right.” Spelling and grammar are not a concern here. You can draw, doodle, scribble, use color – whatever you want. Have fun with it, and use this to really let off some steam! Write down all the stressors you can think of from your day.
- Make two columns – “Stressors” in one, and “How I Can Handle Them Better” in the second. Chances are you won’t even know how you could handle them better, but at least have the room there if a thought pops in to your mind. You can always go back and fill in what you want later.
- After you’ve had some time to write all of this down, and have worked at letting some steam off, take five minutes to just relax and clear your mind. If there’s anything else you want to add after having some time to calm down, you can do it now. For anything that you could not think of an improvement in how to deal with the stressor, consider looking for some help online, through articles or support forums. Take time to research ideas later.
- Take some time at the end of this session, to look at any progress you may have made. If you’re finding common stressors occurring that you’re having trouble dealing with, put aside some time on your calendar to do some thorough research on ideas for handling these issues better.
Keep working on managing your stress, and learn ways that you can improve. Go to the library and check out some good motivational books. Talk to friends, family, and other loved ones who can give you more insight into managing your stress better. Share your ideas with others, through great books you have read or other helpful resources you have found. By sharing, and working with others, you can develop your own support network.
Reach out and ask for help when you need it, and offer it back to others when it’s their turn. Don’t try dealing with stress on your own – you’ll have much more success if you work together with others, and are willing to accept the changes you need to make to improve your overall stress management.
Eat better, move more, and believe in yourself!
