You’ve probably heard that aromatherapy works to relieve stress and help with relaxation, but how many of us actually take the time to put it to use? We’ve become so busy it’s difficult to find the time to take simple steps to help us feel more relaxed, and to rejuvenate our bodies and our minds. But, what if you were to realize that aromatherapy can also be used to help with concentration – would you be more likely to incorporate it into your life in some way? Scent is the only one of the senses which is directly connected to the brain, so it works faster and more effectively than others. Wouldn’t it be great to get that little extra boost to your brain to help perk you up, and get more done with your time?

There are so many different scents to choose from, you should be able to easily find something that works best for you. The scents range from minty or fruity to fresh smelling varieties. Take a look at some of the options available:

  • Lemon (who doesn’t love the smell of lemon! Okay, maybe some of you…)
  • Mango – Mango is also known to alleviate symptoms of depression as well, which will help to improve concentration overall.
  • Pine – This scent can give your body a much needed energy boost as well as helping with concentration.
  • Apple – Another great source for that extra boost in energy!
  • Rosemary – This scent actually improves relaxation and alertness at the same time.
  • Peppermint – Recommended for improving alertness for long periods of time, such as a long study session.
  • Eucalyptus – Can be added to offer a slightly different scent.

If your goal is to increase concentration through aromatherapy, there are several different ways of getting the aroma around you.

  • Candles – Candles work great for getting the scent spread throughout your environment, and look great too! Find the scent you like, and light a candle whenever you feel that you need a boost. Although a candle is less concentrated, it will work just as well as other options. Make sure you have a filter in your vents though, because the smoke from a candle can pollute your air.
  • Humidifier – You can use your room humidifier, by adding drops from an oil form of your scent of choice into the humidifier. As the water is put into the air, the oil will go with it. The drops then evaporate and leave the wonderful scent all through the room. There are even devices now which use water to emit the scent and help to clean your air as well.
  • Oil or Lotions – You can try rubbing the oil for the humidifiers on to your chest, or just under your nose. Be careful though, because some oils can be harmful to your skin, so you might need to mix a couple drops of oil into a carrier oil to protect your skin. You can even look for a lotion that contains the scent you’re wanting, and rub it all over your body.

If want to be able to concentrate better at work, or just improve your overall concentration, you owe it to yourself to try one or more of these great ideas for bringing aromatherapy into your routine. The effects are tremendous, and you’ll begin to see improvements immediately. Aromatherapy doesn’t need to just be for relaxing, it can be used to help rejuvenate your body and your mind as well.

Eat better, move more, and believe in yourself!
