Product Description
The My Weigh KD-8000 scale is the perfect scale which includes a removeable Protective LCD Display Cover (as well as three Soft Protective LCD Display Covers) which helps protect against many weighing messes such as recipes, candle-making, spills & more! Not many scales in its class can match up to the reputation & features of the KD-8000; the biggest change from the KD-7000 to the KD-8000 is the new Baker's Math/Percentage Weighing function. This has been a long-standing way for bakers to weigh their ingredients in proportion to their main ingredient (flour). This feature is the preferred method for bakers for the simple fact that it eliminates messy math that comes with weighing in teaspoons, cups, etc. - instead you deal with just percentage. Also, measuring this way allows for you to make as little or as much as you want easier. Now that's the easiest weigh to go about baking, isn't it? This is a MUST-HAVE for any aspiring or professional baker!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Kitchen Scale   February 9, 2010
been there done that

This is a really great kitchen scale. I have had mine for several months and have found no negatives about it. I bought this with an AC plugin (on purpose) so I don't know about the battery operated units. It is accurate and has many features. Read the specks and other reviews for details. The reviewers that gave this 4 stars usually have very little negative about it. I am 100% satisfied with mine & I think you will like it.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Scale, Poor Instructions   July 1, 2010
B. Stone (waco, TX United States)
This is a wonderful scale to have in the kitchen, because it provides Bakers' Percentage. Making bread, you first weigh the flours, and then hit the "%" key to record the total flour weight. After that you can hit the tare key, and weigh the other ingredients as a percentage of the flour weight. You can do this in the same or a different vessel, using the tare key as needed.

The result is that you can easily vary the weight of the flour to make different sized loaves, because the percentage for the other ingredients will remain the same.

The instructions at the vendor's website, and included with the machine, have this all wrong. One version says you hit the "%" key twice - it should be once. All versions say you should never hit any other keys after hitting the "%" key to record the wieght of the flour. But it is much easier if you hit the tare key as needed - then you see the percentage for each ingredinet separately, with no need for mental arithmatic.

The finish is good, it is easy to clean and keep clean, and I have had no problems in using this scale after figuring out that the instructions were wrong. Making recipes other than bread, you can choose another ingredient for the main one - for instance, in beef stew weigh the meat first, and then base all the perentages on that.

A very few cookbooks now provide the Baker's Percent system in their recipes - one I have ordered is Artisan Breads at Home by Kastel. To use books which do not, you have to first convert the volume measurements to weight, bearing in mind the differring densities - a cup of water might weigh 240 grams, while a cup of flour might weigh 90 to 150g depending on the type of flour and how tightly it is packed. But you only have to do this once.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use.   July 5, 2010

This unit is easy to use. It self tests when turned on, which takes a few seconds. But other than that, there are no issues I've experienced.

5 out of 5 stars Baking and Science Fair Projects My Way   July 27, 2010
KVA (Southeast Missouri, USA)
After some research, I purchased the My Weigh as a Christmas gift for my husband. We've both used it for various baking projects and are true believers in the weight over volume approach to baking. That being said, this is great scale because the touch pad is easy to clean and the scale works like it should given the dependable results.

Our fourth grader used the My Weigh scale for his science fair project, so even a fourth grader can use it effectively and with repeatable results.

Delivery was on time and we had no issues.
