Product Description
The all-new 2008 My Weigh KD-8000 scale is the perfect scale which includes a removeable Protective LCD Display Cover (as well as three Soft Protective LCD Display Covers) which helps protect against many weighing messes such as recipes, candle-making, spills & more! Not many scales in its class can match up to the reputation & features of the KD-8000 New Baker's Math/Percentage Weighing function. This has been a long-standing way for bakers to weigh their ingredients in proportion to their main ingredient (flour). This feature is the preferred method for bakers for the simple fact that it eliminates messy math that comes with weighing in teaspoons, cups, etc. - instead you deal with just percentage. Also, measuring this way allows for you to make as little or as much as you want easier. This is a MUST-HAVE for any aspiring or professional baker! The KD-8000 has an improved weighing capacity. Other features of the KD-8000 are standard Removeable LCD Covers which protect the buttons from the elements (1 Hard-Cover & 3 Disposable Soft-Covers); a strong, removeable Stainless-Steel Platform, precise readability from 1g to 0.05oz, Programmable Auto Power-Off Feature, Easy-to-read 5-Digit Backlit LCD Display & Adjustable Backlight Feature, strong, durable body & build that has made the KD Series scales great for the home, office, laboratory, workshop, classroom & more! * Precise 1g/0.05oz readability* Reads in grams, ounces, kilograms, pounds & pounds: ounces* Programmable power-off feature*Easy-to-read backlit 5-digit LCD display* Protective removable LCD cover* Runs on 3 AA batteries (INCLUDED)* Adjustable backlight feature* NEW! 4 out of 5 stars kd-8000 scale   June 27, 2009

After a long research for a good quality and accurate scale and moderately priced I settled on this one. I have been using it for about 6 weeks . I am a cold process soap maker and need something that is accurate and can withstand abuse. So far this scale has been very accurate I am constantly testing the accuracy with a weight and it is very accurate .
I like the shield that protects the keypad and the size of the of the table, it can hold a very large bowl and the table can be removed for cleaning. The window is bright and the numbers can be easily seen ..the tare button works perfectly every time.
It can easily go from ozs to grams and to % . I have 2 other scales that I thought were very good but this one is now my favorite. That it came with the power cord ,which is usually an option is great ..I hate it when they are battery operated and you have to purchase a power cord separately . I have not used the battery option so I do not know how long the battery lasts. I highly recommend this scale can't wait to use it for bread making .

I am fortunate to own numerous kitchen and tea scales, thus my point of reference for this review. This scale is accurate and has two desirable features: I like the large, back lighted display, and the built in display guard.

Nonetheless, the negatives outweigh the positives.

I do not like turning it "On", then waiting several additional seconds for the display to count down from 9999.99; 8888.88; 7777.77; -and so forth to, 0000.00, then ".00" before it is ready to accept my tasks. Yes, it is only a few seconds, but I find it annoying to stand there holding ingredients and waiting for my scale to run through its exercise routine when I am ready to start prep. My Salter and other scales do not do this, and for that simple reason alone, I find myself subconsciously preferring to use any of my other available scales.

EXAMPLE: Think of walking into a dark room for instance, turning on a light switch, - THEN having to count to Ten for the switch to turn on and light the room. - This stall in activation does not work for me! Thankfully other scales do not have this problem.

I also do not care for its height. It raises several inches above other flat scales that are available. This is a consideration when the scale performs tasks on the counter beneath hanging kitchen cabinets.

For instance, visibility in the bowl is obstructed due to the combined height of the scale along with the additional height of a metal work bowl such as Kitchen Aid KitchenAid K5ASBP Bowl for 5-Quart Professional Stand Mixer, setting on top of the taller scale. This added height makes it easier to topple, or bump the bowl. Moreover, it is an awkward height from which to hoist sugar/flour sacks with good control for measuring. I must stand on my tiptoes to view the measured contents. For those who have a 30" worktable, this will not be an issue.

I do not recommend this scale.

The Salter 6055 Digital Kitchen Scale Digital Scale - Extra-Precise remains my kitchen workhorse. I wish it had the brightly lighted display of the My Weigh, but that is the only trade off.

The recent debut of the "Escali Professional-quality Digital Baker's Scale" that was designed in conjunction with King Arthur Flour is the most problematic, temperamental, grossly inaccurate scale I have purchased to date. It is fraught with problems. I returned it immediately. Apparently, King Arthur Flour Catalogs no longer offer it. My experience with the Escali scale likely was not isolated.
