5 out of 5 stars Glad that i got them.   August 28, 2007

As soon as i realized that i started to gain weight for pretty much no reason , i thought that i should try to control how much do i eat or drink.

It was kind of hard to decide what kind of scale to choose as pretty much all of them looked nice and would give you an accurate weight. Then i realized, that knowing just the weight is not enough - i need to know how many calories are in one serving and how much one serving is and then do the math. Most of the times it's pretty easy, when it's written on the package. But let's say you are going to have a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I was amazed that the amount of cream i was putting was as twice as much than i thought. Then comes the sugar. Sure, i can get the list of products online and look up how many calories are there and then calculate how much did i put. Instead, i just put the code from the manual and i can see the amount of calories out of the sugar right away. A cup of coffee only is around 100kkal and i can take about 5 cups per day. 500kkal just out of coffee while trying to take under 2000 kkal per day. Any product that seems to be harmless has calories in it and you eat it without even realizing that you are overeating throughout the day. I love grapes and i eat as much as i want and consider it a light snack till i put it to the scale and realize that sometimes this snack is 300-400 kkal.

I'm glad i got the scale and know how much do i eat. Besides, the design is very sleek, the scale is smaller than i thought as it looks bigger in the picture and it takes less space than a dinner plate. If you are about to start to control how much do you need i would highly recommend to spend those extra $20 for this particular model with nutrition calculator - it makes you life much easier.

5 out of 5 stars I love this scale   May 29, 2008

I follow the "zone" diet which requires specific ratios of proteins fats and carbs. I use this scale primarily for figuring out my carb intake.

I was using a manual scale (the kind you rotate the base to tare it and count little lines to measure) and then looking up in a book the carb/fat/protein value and THEN doing the math. The preset choices are a little limited in my view. Like there wasn't a measure cherries with pits (ie- fresh cherries) and I'm not sure what a medium vs large strawberry would be. But in the end it synced with the math I was doing manually so it's a winner!! The one thing that isn't clear is if when calculating the carbs if the net carbs are less the fiber. I think they are, based on my manual calculations such that I call my net carbs exactly what this scale shows as "carbs".

I love this little guy (and it IS little)and my prep time has been cut in half!

5 out of 5 stars Easy, accurate, attractive   August 24, 2008

This scale is easy to use, seems quite accurate based on comparing food package listed mass to actual mass. Instruction booklet contains a fairly long list of foods that you can get nutritional information on using the code. Codes are easy to enter, although perhaps the booklet could be a bit better organized. A nice bonus is that the scale looks nice, and can be left out on the counter. The top of the scale is the size of, well I hate to use this example, but a dessert-size paper plate. Tare function also makes it convenient.

5 out of 5 stars This is the only kind of weighing that I enjoy!   April 24, 2009

I have tried a lot of different "fad" diets but while I'm working on losing weight I've come back to the tried and true method of burning more calories than you consume. I didn't know what to expect with this scale but found that I love it. I love to cook and this allows you to calculate the calories of every ingredient. I set my cooking bowl on the scale and turn it on - it excludes the weight of the bowl. Between each ingredient you turn it off and turn it back on and it resets to zero so you can weigh each ingredient but use the same bowl. The same is true for loading your plate and knowing how much each item weighs. It has a lot of other cool features but my favorite is the zero reset because you don't have to dirty up measuring cups and extra plates to figure each ingredient.

It is thin and light weight - I'll admit that sometimes when I carry a large purse I put it in there so that when I go out to lunch I can measure portions.

I've lost 20 lbs so far and this has helped me so much.
