5 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait.   December 17, 2009

I became familiar with Rachel Cosgrove after discovering "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" (also an excellent book).

I read on her blog months ago that she was writing this book and I've been anxiously waiting for it to be published. I am not disappointed. You can tell from the get-go that Rachel is an expert in her field. She has heard it all and she has many answers I have not read elsewhere. She really hits the nail on the head with her advise.

What I like most about the exercises is that they build in difficulty over time. The pictures of each exercise are invaluable. The written explanations are also a must. I bring the book into the gym and have it open to what I need. A quick glance is all I need to trigger my memory. (A gym membership is not required right away, but will be after the first 4 weeks.)

I cannot recommend this book enough. I was in a rut and burning out and this book put me back on track to fitness. I will not hesitate to pre-order her next book. I know it will be worth every penny and more. For those of us who are unable to train with Rachel directly, this is the next best thing.

5 out of 5 stars From a male Personal Trainer   February 14, 2010

As a male Personal Trainer with the majority of my clients' females, I found Rachel's book to be the best complete training book for women I've read so far, and I've read all that I could find. I have purchased this book many times and have given it to my new clients before I start them on a fitness schedule.

What I found so great about her book is, first of all, she's a woman. She had many of the problems women have such as image disorders, eating disorders, that "time of the month" problems, and disorders of the mind when thinking that running is the fastest way to lose bodyfat. She doesn't write for the "Cover Girl" models, but for everyday women that you'll see at the mall, stores, gyms, or PTA meetings. She is a Sports Nutritionist, (CISSN) that addresses the very important nutritional aspect of being fit.

I'm not saying that I understand every problem that a woman brings to me during a training session, but her 16 secrets in her "Fit Female Credos" address a lot of the problems that hold back a woman from mediocrity to success. They should be read frequently, and my male clients could learn a few things from that Credo!

I have a minor disagreement regarding her statements that women don't need isolation exercises that hit the arms or shoulders, and define those muscles more. In my experience, most of the women that I train, that have been successful in losing body fat into the low 20% range, there is a request for an isolation "arm" or "shoulder" workout. This is especially true when summer is approaching and sleeveless clothing is being worn. We use these workouts when my clients have been up most of the night with kids, or not feeling up to a strenuous workout. This is such a minor point that I still think her book is the best, and she sets a very good example of a successful fit female.

5 out of 5 stars Great!! Advanced Techniques But Easy to Follow   December 27, 2009

As a former figure competitor and mother of a five month old, I wanted a book that would recharge and renew my passion for fitness. I was also looking for a program that wouldn't require the two hours per day working out that I was used to previously (as a full time professional and mother of a 5 month old, that much time is limited). I just finished Rachel's book and I am more than impressed. I have read MANY fat loss programs and am very familiar with much of the new science and nutrition philosophies in the market today - Rachel incorporates them ALL in her book and in the different phases of her program. Plus her material is easy to understand and in my opinion, easier to implement. Again, she is using many proven and tested nutritional and fitness techniques that can be completed in 6 hours per week (that's the max commitment - she has other levels requiring less time). If you are serious about losing fat and sculpting a body that you feel confident and sexy in and allows you to wear the clothes you want with confidence and no guilt, this is the program for you. The visuals provided in the book are also great for explaining the movements and show proper form. Congrats to Rachel for producing the first book I am found in a long time that delivers what it says. I highly recommend this book (and for those of you wondering, I am not a friend, client, colleague or in any way related with Rachel - just a huge fan!). Happy reading!

5 out of 5 stars I love this book   March 4, 2010

This book contains wonderful information about developing the best kind of female body. I have a little trouble determining if I'm doing some of the activities correctly. Perhaps Rachel Cosgrove could produce a dvd to go with the workout part of this program. Alternatively, she could put video clips on her website which would demonstrate the moves. All in all this is a wonderful resource for getting into shape.
