Customer Reviews: It's like doing a full set of yoga in only five minutes!July 4, 2007 Taiji 218(The Frozen North) I've been doing these exercises since I was 20 years old -- and I'm pushing 60 now. These exercises have been remarkable in helping me remain
flexible and healthy. They're simple to do and quick. Just five minutes or so in the morning and five at night. Makko-ho simply means "Mr. Makko's exercises." Mr. Makko was a middle-aged Japanese gentleman who noticed that little kids could plop into these positions easily. He reasoned that if he could train himself to do the same thing he might re-acquire some of the vitality he had as a little kid himself. It took him three years, but he finally did so. The main thing I can recommend to people--especially men--is to take your time getting to "perfect posture." The postures look intimidating at first, but start where you're at. When I began I couldn't touch my toes or do any of the exercises with any finesse whatsoever. Exercise three literally took me three years to get into. But doing the exercises has paid tremendous benefits. I have no arthritis whatsoever and can actually move around better than I could when I was an adolescent.
As a practitioner of martial arts I find these exercises fast and indispensable.
There's a "newer" version of the book out that I find to be a piece of crap. Buy this original version instead. Practice regularly and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!
