The spiral bound "Dietminder" is a good tool of choice if you're looking for a handy and convenient way of keeping track of your food intake. While there is a space provided to write down your daily physical activity, it is minimal. Readers wanting some serious space to record exercise should check out this author's other "Bodyminder" book.
Okay. The "binder" starts off with tips for using the journal- and includes a general overview of what's contained on each page (remember, this is a journal filled with pages that are all the same). Essentially, this section shows you how to use the journal. Some dietary web resources you can refer to follow.
Next comes a section on setting your goals, complete with pages for before and after photos of the new you. After this, the pages are all the same. On the left side page are places for you to record your breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with columns for calories, as well as fat, carb, protein, and fiber grams. The right side page contains a place for snacks, vitamins, daily grand totals, as well as vitamins, supplements, and medications. A small space for physical activity is placed at the bottom, along with an even tinier spot for miscellaneous notes. All-in-all, there's plenty of room on the pages to write down the things you bought the journal for, and the spiral binding makes it easy to write on because you can flip the pages over for a thicker writing surface!
The book ends with a kind of "wrap up" section that contains favorite food facts (i.e. like the number of calories or fat in common foods), a place to graph records, weekly progress charts to write down info such as your weight and other measurements, and some reference calendars. The last page is a plastic page to store things (no,not your snacks).
As you can see, the Dietminder is a compact little tool filled with all the right spaces to keep track of all the right things. This journal, plus a healthy dose of get up and go, should help anyone reach their fitness goals. Readers who have trouble sticking to a diet or exercise program long enought to see results may also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator. Good luck!

I just received my 1st copy of Dietminder and I absolutely love it. This is just what I have been looking for. Six months ago I typed up this same format on my home computer, and placed all my paper in an 8 by 11 notebook, but I became frustrated with that b/c it was to big and bulkly. Ever since then I started looking around for a book similar to my home version, but small enough that I can carry it in my purse & bingo I found it.
Dietminder has everything you will need to help you keep track of your weight-loss process. You can make note of any nutritional and/or dietary supplements you take daily as well as keep track of your calories, sodium, fiber & fat grams etc. It also provides you with a place to record your goals, present weight, physcial activity performance & your before & after photos. I love it and would definetly get it again, but keep in mind if your not the type of person who is detail oriented when it come to your weight loss process then this journal might not be for you.
A must for anyone embarking on a lifestyle change.March 26, 2000 58 out of 60 found this review helpful
I've always hated the idea of writing down my food intake and counting calories but this journal actually makes it a pleasure. Since I have gotten this book I am able to track every little thing which has been really great. Since starting this journal I have lost over 30lbs.
One aspect it provides is an incentive when I hit a plateau. Seeing how long it takes my body to acclimate to a lower weight makes getting over those plateaus just a bit easier. By tracking my progress in this much detail I can see where problems spring up and deal with them before they sabotage me.
Another plus that this journal has that I have not found in others is a space for fiber intake. As this is a very important part of my lifestyle change it has been a godsend.
While I wouldn't attribute my weight loss to keeping this journal, (that comes mostly from eating right and exercising) I will give credit to the designers for making it easy to use and a wonderful helper on my way to a healthier life. I will never be without one.
I LOVE this food & fitness journal!March 11, 2001 S. Birch(Corona, CA USA) 54 out of 57 found this review helpful
I recently ordered the DietMinder journal, based in part on the good reviews here on Amazon.com, and I am truly impressed with it. I've read in many different sources (most recently, in Kirschenbaum's "Nine Truths about Weight Loss") that writing down your food and exercise greatly improves your chances for success. This journal is a great place to do just that, on a daily basis.
What I like most about this journal is that it can be easily adapted and used for whatever plan you choose, from counting calories, fat grams, and/or fiber to making incremental changes in your eating habits (the latter is my approach). The authors don't have a program or agenda to push, which is a refreshing change from most health/diet books.
I'm currently reading another new book entitled "The Power" by Sue Ellin Browder, who happens to go to my church. There's a section of her book that is aptly titled, "YOUR WEIGHT, YOUR WAY". That's how I think of this journal. I'm using it as a valuable tool to help me make healthy changes in my eating habits in the way that works best for me. A journal format works much better for me than miscellaneous pieces of paper which can get lost, and which don't show progress over time.
With this DietMinder, I'm now on track and excited about the future, as I continue to take steps in the direction of a healthier life!

This journal is a compact record-keeper, information source and progress monitor. For those who make a project out of diet/fitness routines and who love to see a visual representation of the progress, this is fun and motivational. It provides enough space to completely monitor and record a three-month program, after which another journal is necessary. I am delighted with this book.
