5 out of 5 stars Very interesting - definitely worth reading !   July 1, 2003

By answering some questions, the author determines which of six brain chemistry types you are. Based on this type and your symptoms, the author recommends dietary, SUPPLEMENTAL, and lifestyle changes to help w/ stress, mode swings and depression.

I really like the fact that the author explains WHY he recommends certain supplements for certain types and HOW they work, which is based on Orthomolecular Medicine = describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of substances which are natural to the body.

This is an inexpensive book well worth reading. I will probably try some of the supplements after I do some more reading.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most helpful books for using nutritional supplements   June 25, 2006

I am usually skeptical about books that have questionnaires about your type. I rarely fit. However, to my surprise, after taking this questionnaire, when I read the description of my type, it was like reading my autobiography. Some of my quirky dietary needs and also the supplements were mentioned. I was amazed and was very pleased to be able to use the book to further enhance my health condition. Plus, it was wonderful to finally be understood by a health care practitioner. Dr. Lesser's understanding of people is very keen and adept. The holistic overview provided, covering lifestyle, emotions, diet, and supplements, is like a breath of fresh air. The book is also very well written, easy to follow and understand. I recommend this book to those who are wishing to fine tune their supplement programs or simply don't know what to take. Also, it may be very helpful to individuals who are puzzled by mental or emotional symptoms.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books of the Century ! Required Reading!   June 8, 2008

This book summarizes what I have been doing for many years. Paying attention to how I feel after I eat and after taking supplements. It Works! And this is the best book I have read yet on othomolecular nutrition that is written for the average person. It is significantly better than similar books I have read that were written by those with less medical experience. It gives just enough of the pertinant information without becomming an obsessively long read.

I found the brain chemistry type test to be very useful and so short and easy to complete. I found the nutritional advise to be right on and the comparisons of the nutritional information to prescribed drugs to be very useful.

This type of information needs to be in every prison, court room, and war room in the world. Also, marrigage counseling rooms, elementary schools, secondary schools, high schools, and colleges should teach this! What a change that would make! People finally understanding their brain chemistry which empowers them to reduce the tendency to mentally project their emotional thoughts onto others. Rehab in prisons would be a real possibility, etc. etc. ...

This book is absolutely fantastic! Take the time to understand the aspects of each type in yourself and you will grow tremendously over time! Of course it is work and denial is such a powerful pacifier for all of us. So don't beat yourself up for not doing it or understand this book. We all avoid learning for one reason or another. But you now have relatively easy access to such wonderful information! Any effort you spend is well worth it!

A clearer picture of the roles of the omega fatty acids and other lipids for each brain chemistry type would have been nice but maybe I am reaching here because I am not sure the information is out there yet.

Also, FYI, for brain chemistry, I am a big believer in mindfullness, regular aerobic exercise, and stretching / yoga ... and don't forget to take risks regularly ...

Very useful reference for coping with society. Allows one to understand themselves and how to relate to the world. Lots of good nutrition suggestions.

3 out of 5 stars Its difficult to reduce human behavior to a science   January 18, 2008

This book's value pretty much depends upon the completion of a questionnaire, and like most questionnaires there's lots of wiggle room. You understand, right? That being said, I believe it has significant value and excellent observations and suggestions, many of which will possibly assist people who are striving to make a change in their lives. But it also highlights the fact that human behavior is anything but a science ..... yet. Definitely worth a read, but keep your expectations at a reasonable setting.
