The Game On! Diet is not a diet. It's a bold new approach to fitness that turns the latest, smartest, most successful health science into a fun, fierce, and exhilarating game. Developed by Az Ferguson, to help Grey's Anatomy writer Krista Vernoff shed forty pounds of postpregnancy weight, it is the ideal program for busy people who should be working out but have a thousand good excuses not to.
Az keeps you motivated and Krista keeps you laughing as they show you how to organize opposing teams, set goals, and compete to earn points for daily exercise, healthy meal plans, and positive lifestyle changes. With The Game On! Diet, the process of losing weight, for the first time ever, is actually fun. After all, what's better than a bikini body . . . and bragging rights?

I really liked this book. The whole idea of getting a friend involved in the madness--I mean the weight loss--is great! I found it very motivating and something I can defintely see myself doing. It's a great idea, a great concept and will help those of us who need help in this area. A high recommend, along with Goodbye, Fatty! Hello, Skinny! How I Lost Weight And Still Ate The Foods I Loved-Without Dieting.

Can't recommend it enough. The GAME ON Diet is not a fad diet, the fitness and nutrition plans presented here are tried-and-true, have always worked and will work for you. What's different is that the Game itself is the easiest and most fun way I've ever encountered to keep you motivated, engaged and EXCITED to pass up that cupcake or go work out. And without making you fell like a food-deprived gym rat.
Playing the game is terrific both for people who thrive on competition and people who thrive on having a support group. And you WILL lose weight, feel more energetic, and improve your overall health. Best of all, when the game is over, you'll have a clear understanding of what to do to keep your weight off, your energy up. Forever, if you like -- you'll have dropped bad habits that don't work for your life and adopted ones that make it easier and healthier, in ways you never expected.
The book is easy and a riot to read, and the information is invaluable. And the Game is a blast. Buy it, read it and play it!
Best diet book - everJuly 20, 2009 Kimberly Premo(Troy, NY United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have struggled with weight for many years and probably have tried every diet and have purchased a ton of diet books.. All of which are collecting dust because I just cannot get into it and it doesn't motivate me. I absolutely loved reading this book and felt so connected and understood by the author as I read it. I did not want to put it down and couldn't wait to find a team to get started!
I adored Krista's writing style; very conversational and extremely funny! I laughed out loud in so many places!
Brilliant job, Krista and Az! Thanks for finally inspiring me!

I ordered the book on the recommendation of a friend. When I started to read it, I thought, there is no way I am going to do this. No Sugar?! No Butter!?.. I read the entire book, she spoke to me and I realized that someone else, someone who's life might seem perfect, had some of the same issues with eating and food that I did. So I began, I have not quite finished my 4th week and I have lost 18 lbs. It's amazing. Read it, try it, follow the rules and you'll be amazed. My friend and I are not doing the points/penalties, but we are doing everything else. I feel more empowered and healthier than I have in years. No more sleeping pills, no more heart burn meds....Yipee...
Great Book! Great Fun!September 20, 2009 Cindy Rieder(Oregon) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Very funny. Very fast and easy read. The diet/game itself is a blast. We have four teams playing right now--a combination of men and women--some who only have a little to lose, and some who have a lot to lose. All of us have lost weight, and our families our benefiting from the overall healthier eating. The competitive nature of the diet and the fun "trash talk" of our teammates & opposing teams makes it enjoyable to be dieting. We've dubbed it "competitive dieting".
I have tried every type of diet out there--from low fat, to low carb, to no sugar, to weight watchers. This is by far the easiest diet to follow. The fact that you are required to incorporate additional healthy habits, like getting sufficient sleep, water, exercise, eliminating a bad habit and incorporating a new, positive habit really helps with the overall lifestyle change that many other diets fail to address.
The first few days is tough; it will seem like you're cooking and eating all the time. If you have a soda pop/Rock Star/Monster addiction you will go through caffeine and/or sugar withdrawal. If you work out of the home, you will have to be prepared with your meals each morning, since you need to eat every two to four hours, five times a day. Towards the end of the first week, you'll have it pretty down pat, though. Since this diet allows one full meal off plus one full day off that you are required to take, you don't feel deprived. If you're craving Chinese food, for example, you just plan to have it on your day off.
I have recommended this book to everyone I know. I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in making lasting lifestyle changes, even if you have no weight to lose, but want to get healthy and develop healthy habits. Your whole family will get on board with the competition, and everyone will benefit.
