Ask The Fitness Coach
Are you looking for an answer to your fat loss and fitness questions? Have you hit a plateau? Are you having a hard time getting off the couch? Whether you’re a beginner looking for tips to get started or a more advanced fitness enthusiast needing strategies and motivation, ask FitWatch’s expert fitness coach, John Sifferman. With his monthly Q&A column, he’ll help you lose fat and build muscle with his health-first, real world expert advice.
Hello FitWatch Community! My name is John Sifferman, and I’m a health-first fitness coach from backwoods New Hampshire. I consider it my job to help rehabilitate “zoo humans” and get them back into their natural habitat — into their physical bodies, where they can enjoy physical living at its fullest and become strong, healthy, happy, and free. I’ve been a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor in health clubs, homes, and parks — coaching stay-at-home moms, businessmen, and high school athletes.
I also have an online website about physical fitness and living, where I publish interesting things about fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle design – among other things that I’m currently studying or practicing. Along with this, I’m also the manager of BurnTheFat.com and a regular contributor and forum moderator for the Burn The Fat: Inner Circle support community where I help men and women “burn the fat” together.
Suzanne has very generously offered me a position as a guest writer here at FitWatch, and I am honored to help you realize your physical potential.
My specialty is health-first fitness and strength training for the purposes of fat loss, building muscle, or general conditioning. So, these are the areas in which I’d be happy to help you with, but I’m open to other topics for questions as well.
I tend to recommend daily physical activity, whether at the gym or at home. I’m also a big fan of enjoying the outdoors as much as possible because this is a natural way of staying healthy and lean. I know that if you can find a way to enjoy the process of living an exuberant life, instead of chasing fitness benefits (or running from consequences), then you’ve found a rare gem indeed. It is my goal to help you find that elusive motivation that we all have inside of us – our individual secret code to compliance and long-term sustainability. I think one of the key’s to this code lies in joyfully pursuing physical living, instead of punishing yourself for being “out of shape.”
We shouldn’t put fitness in a box. You can’t become fit simply through working out, dieting, or by taking supplements. Becoming fit is a much more holistic process, and when we look at the “big picture” of what it means to be fit for our lifestyle, only then can we see that it really takes much more than a workout routine or special diet. Healthy living must be built-in to our everyday lives, and it should be a fun process. Not something that we force on ourselves and through sheer willpower convince ourselves that we are enjoying. No – not at all. We should be pursuing the very things that make us feel good, that we would do simply for their own sake, because we enjoy doing those things.
There are so many intrinsic rewards for seeking after a healthier lifestyle. I believe that a beautiful physique comes as a by-product of abundant health and fitness. So, it is my goal to help you fall in love with natural movement and physical living.
There, I said it…
I’m after you!
